For Nottinghamshire

My Liberal Vision

for Nottinghamshire

In our post-Brexit society, it is clear we have much more to do in order to ensure a better future for ourselves.

We must face a cost of living crisis head on and tackle the threat of declining living standards. The Liberal Democrats stand for sensible solutions that stand the test of time, and I am proud to be your candidate to stand up against a frightening economic situation.

It's time to reclaim Nottinghamshire for Liberalism, and reclaim Britain into a prosperous future.

Fighting the cost of living crisis

A Track Record to be proud of

I am proud to have been part of a government that last term worked incredibly hard to improve the cost of living crisis we all face.

I strongly supported the introduction of a Windfall Tax to stop big energy companies profiting from a global crisis, and worked to back an increase in the personal allowance, ensuring that more money stays in your pocket every pay check.

More money in your pockets

We'll carry on working through practical solutions that put more money in your pockets every month.

The Liberal Democrats will put an extra £300 a year into your pockets by cutting the rate of income tax to just 22%.

We will also reduce the rate of Land Value Tax further to just 5.3%.

Investing in Britain

The Liberal Democrats will work to invest in Britain, creating positive economic growth through new development and infrastructure schemes.

We will invest in increased access to super-fast hyperoptic broadband for rural Nottinghamshire, along with better transport links such as an expanded Nottingham City tram network.

DUNHAM BRIDGE

Britain is riddled with small private toll bridges like Dunham Bridge and they are increasingly becoming difficult to maintain due to arcane laws.

It provides a vital link between the villages of Newton on Trent, in Lincolnshire, and Dunham-on-Trent, in Nottinghamshire, and will eventually need a complete rebuild.

The Liberal Democrats will bring these bridges under public ownership, and protect toll prices so that the future of these vital local links can be maintained.

A WORLD CLASS EDUCATION SYSTEM

For too long, Nottinghamshire has suffered under the burdensome ideological ignorance of the Tories and Solidarity. One side swoops in and forces everything to be an academy. Another side swoops in and bans grammar schools. The Liberal Democrats understand education is about providing the best possible service for the needs of the local communities, and we will fight to enable this.

Allow Nottingham County Council to establish a Multi-academy trust

Implement the successful Village College model in Nottinghamshire

Job-specific training and guidance for 16-18 year olds

Village Colleges are an innovation that until now has been limited to the county of Cambridgeshire. The Liberal Democrats seek to expand this innovation across the United Kingdom and especially into rural Nottinghamshire.

These colleges serve not just students from 11-16, but also hubs for vital services in rural areas such as Libraries, post-offices. They also providespaces for adult education, sports clubs and activities in the evening ensuring our rural areas are served efficiently and effectively.

Imagine a school that during the day is a world-leading school for our children, then in the evening is home to the local rugby club, the local scouts and also an adult evening college that helps local residents skill up and invest in themselves.
